WINE AND FOOD PAIRINGS

Cheese Please

Two of our favorite things: wine and cheese. They both just seem to make everything better. But for some reason, we always find ourselves stumped when tasked with matchmaking these two categories. Save yourself the Google research with the below quick guide to these failsafe wine and cheese pairings.

BRIE • SPARKLING

Sparkling wine is a classic pairing for the soft, creamy texture and indulgent, slightly sweet flavors of brie – a perfect cocktail hour combo.

GOAT CHEESE • SAUVIGNON BLANC

Sauvignon Blanc’s crisp flavors and zippy acidity are ideally suited to soft, fresh and tangy cheeses such as goat cheese – a classic, go-to pairing for this popular white wine.

MOZZARELLA • PINOT GRIGIO

The light-bodied, dry and slightly earthy style of Pinot Grigio makes this Italian varietal a great match for fresh, mild-flavored Italian cheeses like Mozzarella or Italian ricotta.

GOUDA • MERLOT

The inherent smooth flavors and mild tannins of Merlot make Gouda, a yellow Dutch cheese made from cow’s milk, the perfect match for Merlot – its smooth texture develops a gentle sweetness as it ages, just like its wine counterpart.

AGED PARMIGIANO-REGGIANO • CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits primary fruit flavors such as blackberry and black currant, it addition to secondary flavors like oak, toast and nut. Aged cheeses tend to be more rich and savory, making Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano the perfect paring for Cabernet Sauvignon.
